Man robbed while walking to work

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police are looking for a woman who a man said robbed him at gunpoint early Monday morning on his way to work.

According to a police report, the man said he was at the corner of Bert Road at 4:20 a.m. when he saw a woman panhandling and gave her a dollar. The man said the woman was riding on a bicycle the first time he saw her, then a few minutes later she came up to the man on foot, holding a gun and demanding more cash.

The man gave her all the money he had, which was only $8.

Channel 4 Crime Analyst, Ken Jefferson said many people are often too trusting of panhandlers.

"Someone approaches you for money, the times we live in now people may have legitimate needs," said Jefferson. "But you just can't take a chance these days."

Jefferson recommends that people become vocal when they are approached by someone for money.

"In today's society it's not bad to be rude when someone is asking you for money," said Jefferson. "Teach your children to get away from them and get an adult. You, as an adult, get away from them and get to the police."

Police searched for the female suspect but weren't able to find her after she robbed the victim. People with information about this crime are being asked to call Crime Stoppers. The number is 1-866-845-TIPS.
