The family of a Jacksonville teen says they've received justice. That teen was hit and killed by a driver while on his bike. Today, the driver pleaded guilty in the teen's death. 17 year old Jerrod Peterkin was riding his bike to work on the morning of August 7th, 2012...when Victor Karnauch ran a red light, hitting and killing him. Today emotions ran high as Karnauch received his sentence. For Jarrod Peterkin's family it was a day for justice and closure. And for the man responsible for his death, it was a chance to say I'm sorry. It was his chance to speak during his sentencing, where he pleaded guilty to Vehicular Homicide. When Peterkins mother took her turn, she responded. It was emotional on both sides, as the judge heard from Karnauch and Peterkins family and friends.) Vehicular homicide is a 2nd degree felony with a maximum sentence of 15 years.But the two sides worked out a plea agreement, where Mr.Karnauch will spend TAKE PREPRO: 1 year in the Duval County Jail 2 years of house arrest 7 years probation with no eligibility for early termination 5 years suspended drivers license Karnauch will also have community service, pay restitution, and start the Jarrod Peterkin Foundation, to promote driver awareness.
