A 45-year-old Jacksonville man was sentenced Monday to a year and eight months in federal prison for stealing more than $10,000 from JEA.
Thomas Allen pleaded guilty on March 28.
According to court documents, Allen was an engineer for JEA, the recipient of more than $10,000 in federal funds. As part of the construction team, JEA had an agreement to provide power to the Brooks Rehabilitation Bartram campus project.
Beginning on or about Sept. 1, 2011, Allen began illegally converting construction materials belonging to JEA for sale to an electrical contractor working on the same development project. These materials were not approved for sale by JEA, and Allen converted the monies from the sale to his own personal use.
In all, Allen stole and converted about $63,881 in construction materials owned by the city of Jacksonville.
