JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Melvin Arturo Enamorado, an illegal immigrant, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to a conspiracy to transport other illegal immigrants from Texas to Florida.

Enamorado pleaded guilty in May. According to court documents, Enamorado, 38, recruited Diego Ixmata-Chan to drive seven illegal immigrants from Houston, Texas, to several places in Florida.

Enamorado and the illegal immigrants met with Ixmata-Chan on Oct. 2. Enamorado gave Ixmata-Chan gas money and a van.

Border Patrol stopped the van on Interstate 10 near Macclenny the next day. Two of the aliens jumped out and ran off. The others, including Ixmata-Chan, were arrested.

Ixmata-Chan, an illegal alien himself, was sentenced to seven months in prison for his role in February.

Enamorado may be deported after he serves his sentence.
