A man was shot to death on Danville Avenue in Northwest Jacksonville early Thursday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center and pronounced dead after 1 a.m.

"We have no witnesses," said Sgt. Michael Paul. "We have a 911 caller who heard gunshots. They heard three to five gunshots. We do know he was shot at least one time."

A suspect has not been identified, according to police.

"Until we determine who he is and what he was doing here -- if he lived here -- then we'll see where we're going with the investigation," Paul said.
