Detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office are looking for a man they said tried to rob a Kangaroo store in the 400 block of State Road 16 early Thursday morning.
Deputies were called to the store just before 5 a.m. They said the 38-year old clerk told them the man entered the store with a shirt over his face and approached the counter. The man then demanded money from the clerk, deputies said.
Although the clerk did not see a weapon, the man implied that he was armed, deputies said. They said the man then fled out the door without any money or merchandise and was last seen running on Schallers Road.
The attempted robber was described as a white man with an average build. He was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and was wearing a long sleeve flannel plaid shirt, dark blue shorts, black sneakers and had short brown hair.
Anyone with any information about the man's identity is asked to call Detective David Garns at the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-209-3982 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS (8477).
