LAKE CITY, Fla. -

Police in Lake City are looking for a man they said tried to rob a CVS store Wednesday night.

Investigators said the man went into the store at 2233 U.S. Highway 90 W. just before 9 p.m. and demanded money before fleeing the store empty-handed.

Police describe the man as white, 6 feet tall, and wearing tan desert camouflage pants, a black shirt, work boots and a red and black baseball cap.

The man went into the store before 8 p.m. and tried to buy a 99-cent can of Vienna sausages, but he only had 36 cents in his pocket, so he left the can of sausage on the counter and left the store, police said.

The cashier on duty at the time was still on duty an hour later when the same customer returned, this time holding his shirt up to his nose in an attempt to cover his face, police said.

The man said, "Give me all your money. I'm not joking," police said. The clerk told him three times to leave, and he then walked out of the front door empty-handed.

Police said no weapon was displayed during the robbery attempt, and the cashier was not harmed.

Anyone with any information on the man's identity or whereabouts is asked to call the Lake City Police Department at 386-719-2068.
