A 54-year-old man died Tuesday night after he was struck by an SUV while crossing Hecksher Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the FHP report, David Gowens, of Jacksonville, was walking west across Hecksher just south of Shad Creek Drive just before 8 a.m. when he was struck by a 2007 Jeep driven by Elizabeth Wingate, 29, of Fernandina Beach.
Gowens was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, where he died. Wingate was not injured.
Troopers said no charges were expected.
