A man was issued two court summonses for laughing too loudly in his own home.
CBS New York and the Associated Press report that a neighbor issued complaints against 42-year-old Robert Schiavelli for the disruptive laughter coming from his home. Schiavelli, who has seizures and other neurological problems, claimed he laughs as a defense mechanism against the taunts of his neighbor, Daniel O’Hanian. The neighbors have been feuding on and off for about a year. Schiavelli claims O'Hanian mocks him for being mentally challenged and calls him a "retard."
A Nassau County judge declined to throw out the complaints at a Tuesday arraignment. Schiavelli could face $500 in fines or 30 days in jail.
