Guy Heinze Jr. has been re-indicted in the killings of eight people in a Glynn County mobile home in 2009.
His defense lawyers sought to have the indictment thrown out, claiming a convicted felon was on the grand jury that returned it.
The district attorney's office determined that was the case, and opted to seek a new indictment out of expediency.
Heinze was in court Tuesday morning to plead not guilty.
The next court date is June 18 for a motions hearing.
There is still no trial date set. Prosecutors said that may come late this year or early next year.
