This morning -- what's expected to be the last major pre-trial hearing will begin before accused murderer Michael Dunn goes on trial. He's charged with murder for the shooting death of 17-year- old Jordan Davis at a southside gas station.. and with three counts of attempted murder for the other three people who were in the S-U-V. Channel 4's Erica Rakow joins us live this morning from the Duval County courthouse with a closer look at the motions that will be heard today.. 3 3 JUDGE RUSSELL HEALEY WANTS TO MAKE SURE THIS CASE GOES TO TRIAL WHEN SCHEDULED..WHICH IS AT THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY. SO HE'S SET ASIDE TWO DAYS TO ADDRESS ALL THE PRE-TRIAL MOTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN FILED. 3 FEBRUARY THIRD IS THE DAY MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WAITING MORE THAN A YEAR FOR.. THAT'S WHEN MICHAEL DUNN IS EXPECTED TO GO ON TRIAL FOR MURDER. 20.0332 - 3.49 "Just believing justice will be served, but it's been very difficult. 336 b/c a whole year. We've had no closure. We're looking forward, not to the trial, but we are looking forward to finding some closure fairly soon.349" DUNN IS ACCUSED OF SHOOTING AND KILLING 17-YEAR-OLD JORDAN DAVIS IN NOVEMBER OF 2012 AFTER AN ARGUMENT OVER LOUD MUSIC BEING PLAYED FROM THE SUV DAVIS WAS IN WITH THREE OTHER FRIENDS AT A SOUTHSIDE GAS STATION.STARTING THIS MORNING, JUDGE RUSSELL HEALEY WILL TAKE CARE OF FINAL MOTIONS FROM THE STATE AND THE DEFENSE BEFORE THE TRIAL BEGINS. ONE OF THE MOTIONS REQUESTS TO ALLOW THE JURY TO INSPECT THE SCENE OF THE SHOOTING DURING THE TRIAL. LOCAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY GENE NICHOLS IS NOT CONNECTED TO THIS CRIMINAL CASE BUT OFFERS SOME INSIGHT INTO THESE MOTIONS HE CALLS "ROUTINE". GENE NICHOLS/DEFENSE ATTORNEY 1:05 I would suspect that the judge would grant that. They would have a bus with security that would take them to the scene and the scene would be somewhat roped off so that we would not have anybody interfering with the jury while theyre out there 1:46 its impactful to have the jury actually go out to the scene so they can imagine where it happened without having to just look at it in photographs IT'S BEEN A HIGH PROFILE CASE.. WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE WATCHING IT CLOSELY.. SO OTHER PRE-TRIAL MOTIONS THE JUDGE WILL HEAR TODAY DEALS WITH WHO WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE COURTROOM AND WHAT THEY WEAR. THE DEFENSE HAS FILED A MOTION TO PROHIBIT PEOPLE FROM WEARING ITEMS THAT DEPICT SUPPORT FOR EITHER SIDE.4:32 it is proper for out here its proper for whomever wants to express their feelings to express them in anyway legally that they want to but the judge is going to make sure that it does not impact the jury. So don't plan to see any tshirts with anybodys face or message in the courtroom that may impact this jury. 3 JUDGE HEALEY HAS SET ASIDE TWO DAYS TO GET THROUGH THESE PRE- TRIAL MOTIONS FILED BY BOTH SIDES TO MAKE SURE THE ISSUES ARE RULED UPON AND THE LAWYERS HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO REACT UPON THE RULING AND BE READY FOR TRIAL.
