Mistrial declared for driver in officer shooting

A mistrial has been declared in the case against a Tampa Bay area woman facing federal charges connected to two Tampa police officers being fatally shot outside her car.

The jury had deliberated for about nine hours over two days. The judge declared a mistrial Wednesday after the second time jurors informed him they couldn't reach a verdict. It wasn't immediately clear if prosecutors would seek a new trial.

Cortnee Brantley had been charged with not telling authorities that her passenger, Dontae Morris, was a convicted felon in possession of a gun and ammunition.

Authorities say Brantley was pulled over by Officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab on June 29, 2010, and Morris got out of the car and killed them. Morris still awaits trial on first-degree murder charges.
