The mother of a 4-year-old boy police say accidentally shot himself has been arrested.
Lisa Hilker, 37, is charged with child abuse in the May 31 accidental shooting inside a mobile home on the Southside.
According to a police report, Hilker left a .380 handgun in her purse on the dining room table as she was getting ready to go to work.
The boy got hold of it and shot himself in the leg, according to the report.
He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Hilker admitted to police the gun did not have a functioning safety, according to the report.
