A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a car in Palm Coast on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened on U.S. Highway 1 at Matanzas Woods Parkway about 8:30 a.m.
State troopers said Gary Pearson, of Jacksonville, was riding north on U.S. 1 approaching the intersection and a car driving by 20-year-old Michael Diedel was stopped facing west on Matanzas Woods Parkway at a stop sign.
Troopers said that for reasons unknown, Diedel drove into the path of Pearson, who laid his motorcycle down on its left side to try to avoid the car but failed.
Pearson died a short time later.
No one in the car was hurt.
Troopers said charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
All lanes were blocked for about two hours before reopening.
