New arrival at the Jacksonville Zoo
The Jacksonville Zoo welcomed a new baby giraffe to its family.
He was born on February 21, 2013 and weighed 150 pounds. He is the fifth giraffe calf born at the zoo in two and a half years.
The new calf already stands 6 feet 2 inches tall. Zoo officials say that he stood within an hour of his birth and began nursing.
Zoo officials are still debating on a name for him. The lucky parents are the zoo's male breeding giraffe, Duke, and first-time-mom, Luna.
The baby will stay with his mother in the giraffe barn while he is young. Visitors can see him from the zoo train.
There are now 11 giraffes living at the Jacksonville Zoo. They have an average lifespan of 25 years.
