STARKE, Fla. -

Sheriff's deputies in Alachua and Bradford counties are warning banks and other law enforcement agencies in the area to be on the lookout for a man they believe has held up three banks in small towns in north-central Florida over the past two weeks, and was spotted in a fourth bank.

In robberies in Starke on Dec. 22, Hawthorne on Dec. 28 and Bunnell on Dec. 29, the male robber carried a brown bag and left a possible explosive device on a counter.

The robber is a black man between 20 and 30 years old, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 10 inches tall with what was described as prominent eyes. In each case, including a sighting of the man in a Crescent City bank hours before the Hawthorne robbery, the robber was wearing a hat.
