In a one page letter, some area pastors are asking State Attorney Angela Corey to once again offer Marissa Alexander a 3 year sentence for her aggravated assault charges. Alexander is the Jacksonville woman accused of firing a shot in the direction of her husband and his two children. She refused a 3 year plea deal during her first trial. Alexander is now facing a 60 year sentence in her retrial. Channel 4's Tim Pulliam spoke with one of the pastors who wrote the letter and joins us live now with more. 3 3 3 00-05 06-11Pastor Ken Adkins/Greater Dimensions Christian Fellowship 122956 There is an ongoing battle in Jacksonville a lot of violence and murder and the pastors want to get this under control. And this really is a distraction. That distraction Pastor Ken Adkins is referring to is the high-profile case of Marissa Alexander. In 2012 she rejected the State Attorney's Office 3 year plea deal on three aggravated assault charges, where prosecutors said she pointed her gun in the direction of her estranged husband and two of his children.Alexander claimed she was standing her ground, but the judge sentenced her to 20 years. Last year, her conviction was overturned and now the 33 year old is facing a retrial. But Adkins says he and a handful of pastors would like Angela Corey to offer her the 3 year deal again.123015 We need to move beyond this so we can begin to heal this city.In a one page he writes: As Community Leaders who have a vested interest in this community; we believe that justice would best be served by this very fair offer and it is our prayer that Miss Alexander accepts this offer so she could receive credit for time served, complete the remainder of her sentence and continue on with her life. 3 3 What does Pastor Adkins think of the controversy concerning Angela Corey sending a letter to legislators about the case?
