A string of bank robberies has kept investigators in Duval and St. Johns counties busy last weekend. The search is on for three armed bank robbers who held up three different banks from the Westside to Mandarin to Julington Creek. Saturday morning, the Wachovia Bank on State Road 13 in Julington Creek was robbed. According to police, a man pulled a gun on the teller and got away with cash. The robber is described as a white male between 30 and 50 years old. Deputies said he is about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 and was unshaven. Police have also launched an investigation into a robbery at the Wachovia in the 4200 block of San Juan Avenue, where they say a man threatened bank employees with a gun. The teller said the man demanded large bills and specifically told her no dye packs. Police said the man told the teller to hurry up or she was going to, "get somebody killed." Witnesses said the thief is about 5-foot-9 and was wearing a T-shirt that said "I've been working." On Thursday, an armed robber held up the First Guaranty Bank on Old St. Augustine Road. Surveillance tape from the bank shows a masked man walking into the bank carrying a gun. A bank teller told police the crook demanded cash, ordered the teller to put the money in a bag and then lie down on the floor before he walked out. Police said he got away in a navy hatchback with a license plate number that may have been P9845K.
