Police: Man shot in Brentwood hospitalized

Witnesses heard gun shots and saw a person get into car and take off

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police were investigating after a person was shot Monday night in the parking lot of a strip mall in the Brentwood area of Jacksonville.

Witnesses told Channel 4 that they heard three shots coming from the shopping plaza near the Blue Diner plaza in the 5800 block of Norwood Avenue about 8:30 p.m., then saw someone run away from the scene and speed away in a car.

Sgt. Shawn Coarsey said the victim, whose name was not released, was found with a gunshot wound to his torso sitting in a car.  The man was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. 

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide detectives the victim was talking with a woman when another man walked up, got into an argument and shots were fired.

Police said the gunman left in a dark car, possibly a Dodge Stratus.  The woman also left the scene before they arrived, but not with the gunman.
