A 30-year-old Louisville, Ky., man was arrested in Lake City early Wednesday morning after police said he tried to steal a flatbed trailer.

Police said they noticed a suspicious vehicle backed up to a trailer at a business along U.S. Highway 90 just before 2 a.m. They said after seeing police, the driver, Dustin Stone, fled on foot.

Police said they found found fresh tire tracks leaving from where the trailer was located and heading across the wet grass toward the rear of the business. There they found a green and grey Ford Ranger partially submerged in a retention pond along Southwest Deputy Jeff Davis Lane, with the driver's door open and the vehicle unoccupied.

Police searched the area by following wet footprints from the truck toward C&G Mobile Homes. A resident called police and told them Stone was at the Gateway Inn.

Stone was arrested on charges of grand larceny, resisting an officer without violence, and loitering and prowling. Police said he was driving a stolen vehicle from Kentucky.
