Police confirmed Thursday that the remains found in a wooded area off Philips Highway in South Metro were those of a 33-year-old woman last seen on June 1.

Homicide detectives said the remains of Tara Hawkins, found Sunday night behind an office complex in the 3700 block of Philips, were "badly decomposed."

Police said a passerby found the remains. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results for the cause of death, but police suspect foul play.

"Our information is she was a likable woman that didn't have any enemies," Lt. Rob Schoonover said. "We would love to have information from the public; whoever saw her last or has any information about her."

Hawkins was last seen at Emperor's Gentlemen's Club on University Boulevard, where she worked as a waitress.  Her body was found about 2 miles away.

"I'm heartbroken," Hawkins' sister, Brooke Carpenter, told Channel 4. "It’s shocking."

Most of Hawkins' family lives out of town and are struggling to deal with her death.

"By the grace of God, he’s giving me strength, knowing that she's in a better place," said her uncle, Ivan Jackson.

Police continue looking for a Hamilton blue beach cruiser, the same beach cruiser Hawkins was seen riding in a surveillance photo police obtained. Officers were also looking for her T-shirt, blue jeans and a cellphone.
