Police: Teacher sexually abused boy
26-year-old Duval County elementary school teacher arrested
A Duval County elementary school teacher was arrested Tuesday on three counts of sexual battery on a victim younger than 12, and charges of lewd and lascivious battery, molestation and conduct on a minor.
According to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report, 26-year-old Christopher Bacca, a teacher at Windy Hill Elementary School, showered with a boy more than once while the victim stayed the night at Bacca's home.
The boy told police that Bacca touched his private parts with his hand on more than one occasion, according to the police report.
The boy also told police that Bacca performed oral sex on him more than once, according to the report.
Bacca was Windy Hill's reigning Teacher of the Year.
He was first hired in August 2008 as a fourth grade teacher at Long Branch Elementary School and transferred to Windy Hill in January 2010, where he taught until Tuesday.
According to Duval County Public Schools, the superintendent will be recommending suspension without pay pending termination at the Aug. 7 School Board meeting.
"The safety of our students is a top priority and the district took immediate action upon learning of these allegations," the school district said in a statement. "We will provide the outcome of the investigation to the Professional Practices Commission in Tallahassee for any potential action against his teaching certificate."
