A violent beach brawl one year ago today-- had the Jacksonville Beach community calling for change - and left an indelible stamp on the area's image. An image - that the Police Chief says - is unfair. 3 Jax Beach Police Chief Patrick Dooley "it was addressed immediately by police and that shouldn't be the brand that people try to give us out at the beach...." 3 Tonight-- it appears change has been delivered for Memorial Day at Jax Beach. Channel 4's Adrienne Moore spoke with the police Chief AND beach goers...about the measures put in place to avoid repeat problems this holiday weekend. BUTTED - AM - "do you think people got the message from last year?" "I think by looking around - you tell me - i think they did. That was an anomaly. That was just a handful of people who got into a fight. It was blown way out of proportion." NATS - BRAWL YOU TUBE VO Video from this beach brawl went viral last memorial day prompting safety concerns and even a town hall meeting. Chief Dooley says it created an unfair brand of the Jacksonville beach scene - one holiday visitors say they didn't see any hint of today. While officers did address minor traffic, music, and drinking violations, cheif dooley says this years memorial day proved to be a holiday from trouble.sot - chief "It really hasn;t been too bad at all." 3 THE CHIEF SAYS WE CAN EXPECT TO SEE SIMLAR STAFFING LEVELS FOR THE UPCOMING FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY AND LABOR DAY WEEKEND,..also make a point that it wasn't just jax beach police,...jso also played a role in rovifing more man power.
