Police now believe a murder-suicide at an assisted living facility in Tequesta may not have been an act of rage but one of love.
Investigators said a man walked into his wife's room at the Brookdale Assisted Living Friday afternoon and shot her and then shot himself. Their bodies were found by a nurse around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said the man and woman had been friends since childhood and had been married for decades.
"They've been together since they were age 5 and 12. The husband, 12, the wife, 5," said Lt. Jason Turner of the Tequesta Police Department.
Police have not yet released the identities of the couple. They said the wife had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease and had been staying at the assisted living facility for some time.
Investigators believe the husband could no longer stand to see his wife in that condition but also couldn't live without her. So he killed her and then killed himself.
"I'm just guessing. I don't have the full story and we may not even ever have the full story," said Turner.
