It's expected to be about 20 minutes long. But the race to lead the state has been going on long before this official kickoff, and most polls have Scott trailing his challenger, Charlie Crist. 3 00-1012-20Governor Rick Scott is hoping Floridians will give him 4 more years, and he'll make the pitch in Orange Park as he officially kicks off his reelection campaign.DR. MATTHEW CORRIGAN/UNIVERSITY OF NORTH FLORIDA 023441-55 "I think it will be a fairly simple message it's going to talk about the economy and that jobs are being added.47 The challenge for him is really goes around for most elected officials is trying to get credit for a recovering economy.Dr. Matthew Corrigan, Political Science professor at the University of North Florida, says it's a message Scott has already been trying to get across in an effort to push past challenger, former Florida Governor and democratic candidate Charlie Crist.) Crist leads Gov. Rick Scott 48 percent to 38 percent in this year's gubernatorial race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. Governor Scott has spent more than $4 million on television advertising, mostly attacking Crist's support of the Affordable Care Act.In turn, Crist has called Scott ethically suspect and out of touch with Floridians.DR. MATTHEW CORRIGAN/UNIVERSITY OF NORTH FLORIDA 023542 I think it's going to be a very negative race. You have an encumbent who is not doing as well as encumbents normally do in a reelection race and so he wants to take some of the attention off of him and put it on his opponent.Corrigan says the campaign ahead for Governor Scott will be much different from his first. 023647-59 His money made a big difference and they had a very effective message lets get to work who can argue against that. 53 Now 4 years later I think all of his money is going to make less of a difference because people know him now. 3 Corrigan stressed that what really matters in the midterm, who is successful, will depend on voter turnout.Again, the rally starts at noon here at Volkswagen of Orange Park. It's expected to last 20 minutes. 3 But before Governor Scott speaks in orange park - he's coming by The Morning Show. We'll talk with him LIVE in less than an hour.... at 7:15.
