A jury convicted a Jacksonville man Wednesday afternoon on charges of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
In February, Kirk Foster walked into the Gold Mart on Dunn Avenue armed with a knife and tried to rob the store. Foster cut a store clerk on her hand and then fled to the parking lot, where he pulled a woman from her car and slammed her to the ground.
Witnesses tackled Foster and detained the 50-year-old until police arrived.
"This defendant is a prison release re-offender, with convictions of robbery and grand theft. With this guilty verdict, he now faces mandatory life in prison," said Assistant State Attorney Brittany Mauerberger.
Foster's sentencing date will be set Oct. 29.
