JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Duval County?s second rabies alert of the year was issued on Friday and will be in effect through Dec. 7 for the Naval Air Station Jacksonville area, according to Hilton Manuel, state quarantine officer with the Duval County Health Department.

The alert area is bordered on the north by Allegheny Road at Timuquana Country Club, on the south by Allegheny Road at Huntingdon Road, on the east by Ajax Street at Saratoga Avenue and on the west by Cummings Lane at Fennell Road.

The issuing of the alert followed the discovery of a rabid cat in the NAS Jax area.

Pet owners in the alert area should confine their animals and be certain that each animal has received current rabies immunization shots from a licensed veterinarian.

Duval County?s first rabies alert of the year ended in June for an area east of Craig Airport.

Stray animals should be reported to the city?s Animal Care and Control Division at 904-630-2489.
