JACKSONVILLE, FLa. -

A recount of Tuesday's election for 4th Judicial Circuit, Group 1, confirms That Judge Brian Davis received a majority of the votes and will advance to the general election against a write-in candidate.

Incumbent Judge Brian Davis received 49,449 votes -- or 50.3 percent of the vote in a four-way race.  He needed 50.5 percent to avoid triggering an automatic recount.

The candidate with the next highest number of votes -- Melina Buncome (Williams) -- received 21,937 votes, or 24 percent of the vote.

The circuit covers Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, so all three recounted the ballots and reported the results to the state, which will post the official results.

Davis will now be on the ballot in November because of write-in candidate Gerald Wilkerson qualified in the race.

This entire election might be rendered moot because Davis was nominated earlier this year to be a U.S. district judge in Florida’s Middle District. It is unclear when Congress will hold a confirmation hearing for this and other spots on the federal bench.
