3 In more local news.... Pulled to safety by strangers. A mother and child escape from this submerged SUV...and it's all thanks to some quick-thinking Samaritans. 3 That good samaritan you heard from is just one of several people who stopped and helped this morning. Officers believe it all started when a car ran a stop sign and hit the SUV. The crash sent the woman driving and her 4-year-old son into the water, near the intersection of Beaver and Lee streets. That's in the LaVilla area. Channel 4's Kumasi Aaron spoke with one of the men who helped the family escape. She joins us now live. I didn't care I didn't care about me and anything else just save those people in the car.That's why Eric Sanchez jumped into this pond this morning after a crash sent this SUV into its waters.Despite having a bad knee and back from an accident, Sanchez and another bystander headed straight to it, where they found a frightened woman and 4 year old boy inside.ERIC SANCHEZ/GOO D SAMARITAN 04:44:54-45:14 The lady was scared because the truck was filling up with water.And I told her to open the door she couldn't open the door.They were able to get them out through a window, and safely out of the water.Its a situation all too familiar for Channel 4 safety analyst Ken Jefferson.He helped pull 4 women from a submerged car in 2002.Jefferson says the most important thing to remember if you're ever trapped is to stay calm.KEN JEFFERSON/CHANNEL 4 CRIME AND SAFETY ANALYST 05:00:05-15 Generally that's what happens people panic they can't get their seat belt unbuckled they can't get their door open and unfortunately they end up drowning because of panic and fear.Jefferson says the time you have before a vehicle submerges is critical.KEN JEFFERSON/CHANNEL 4 CRIME AND SAFETY ANALYST 05:01:12-21 The first thing you want to do again is try to unbuckle your seatbelt while the car is going down maintain your composure take a deep breath open your door.And having a Good Samaritan never hurts.ERIC SANCHEZ/GOOD SAMARITAN 04:46:58-03 I feel good.
