What remembered an explosive device a road crew found about four feet from the side of State Road 21 on Friday afternoon turned out to be a training device, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
A deputy met the crew near State Road 21 and Golden Oak Lane just before 2 p.m. and agreed that the item appeared suspicious and called the bomb squad from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, according to the Sheriff's Office.
A few minutes later, Army personnel from Camp Blanding determined it was a training device, the request for the bomb squad was cancelled and the highway between 315C South to Gold Head State Park was reopened.
