JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The Jacksonville Sheriff's SWAT team responded to a home in the 1200 block of Woodruff Avenue on the Westside after a man barricaded himself inside a home for almost four hours.

JSO went to the home around 5 p.m. Thursday to investigate an aggravated battery and sexual battery call.

The man refused to come out when police arrived. Many neighbors were evacuated from the area as a precaution because JSO believed the man was armed and dangerous.

SWAT negotiated with the man for nearly four hours until he surrendered after setting fire in the home. Officials say he was forced to come out due to smoky conditions.

The man is now in police custody and neighbors are now allowed to return to their homes.

No information is being released on the victim/s in the aggravated and sexual battery charges because JSO says this is an ongoing investigation.
