A Sandalwood High School teacher died Tuesday evening, nearly two weeks after he lost control of his motor scooter and crashed near Florida State College at Jacksonville's South Campus.
Police said 28-year-old James Belyea was riding south in the 3100 block of Huffman Boulevard about 6 p.m. Aug. 23 when he lost control of his scooter for unknown reasons, slid about 125 feet and struck his head on the pavement.
Belyea was not wearing a helmet.
He was taken to a hospital, where he died Tuesday.
Police said their investigation is ongoing.
