3 It's a big day for two new schools in Saint Johns County -- today they will officially be named. The school board will vote on what to call the school in Nocatee - and the school in Durbin Crossing. Channel 4's Elizabeth Campbell is in Saint Johns County - and joins us LIVE with the options. 3 Hundreds of suggestions from members of the community were taken for this big decision and later this morning -- parents, students and school administrators will finally know the name of these 2 new K-8 schools. 3 07-1447-54SOT - 15;42:20 "What you name it, it's there forever so we put a lot of thought into it." TRACK - St. Johns County School superintendent Joe Joyner says the school board is looking forward to replacing II and HH with official names. The two new K through 8 schools are set to open in time for the next school year. He says the school district took these names seriously -- and are looking forward to making the final decision.PRE PRO - The II School in Nocatee could be named Valley Ridge Academy Discovery Trail Academy or the Palmetto Cove Academy.PRE PRO - and the HH School in Durbin Crossing could be named The Crossing Oaks Academy the Islebrook Crossing Academy or the Patriot Oaks Academy SOT - 15:43:20"there names that are endemic to the area, some are like the geographical landmarks that are , endemic to that area." TRACK - The names were suggestions from surveys that the public weighed in on last year. Joyner says parents have been appreciative that they had a hand in the decision making process.SOT - 15;44:51'it's really exciting and exhausting because everything starts from scratch, to where are you going to drop off the children to where are you going to eat." After the names are chosed the school board still has to choose the school colors and the mascot.Joyner says regardless of the names chosen, the new schools show that the county continues to grow.
