Serial flasher suspect arraigned on 5 charges
24-year-old accused of exposing self to woman, girls
Brian Spooner appears in court.
A serial flasher suspect was arraigned Tuesday on five charges of exposing himself.
Brian Spooner, 24, pleaded not guilty to those charges.
An additional charge was added against Spooner since his arrest in October.
Spooner, of Mayport, is accused of exposing himself to a woman and several girls. He is charged with four counts of lewd or lascivious exhibition where the victim was 16 or younger, and one count of exposing sexual organs in public.
Police said the flashings happened Sept. 23, 2010, in the 700 block of Assisi Lane; Jan. 13 in the 1300 block of Kernan Boulevard; Sept. 23 in the San Pablo area; Oct. 13 in the Loretto/San Jose area; Oct. 20 in the Mayport area; and Tuesday in the 3600 block of Southside Boulevard.
The victims in the first five incidents were between the ages of 11 and 16. The sixth victim was a 20-year-old woman.
Police said there was no pattern on how Spooner chose his victims. They said one girl was on her way to school and another was playing in the front yard with others. Police said Spooner would lure the girls to his car before exposing them.
Police said they were able to track down Spooner based on a tip and two composite sketches.
According to police, Spooner lived on the base in Mayport but wasn't in the Navy. He worked for a private company and lived on a ship as a merchant seaman.
Spooner is being held in the Duval County Jail with bail set at $95,000.
