JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Jody Christopher Colvin, 42, who experts believe is likely to engage in acts of sexual violence, was sentenced Wednesday morning to indefinite confinement at the Florida Civil Commitment Center in Arcadia.

In 1992, Colvin pled guilty to lewd, lascivious and indecent assault upon a child. Prosecutors said Colvin forced his way into a 12-year-old’s apartment and raped the young girl. Colvin was sentenced to seven years in prison for the crime.

After his release from prison, Colvin violated his probation -- marijuana use and failure to report to sex offender treatment were some of the violations. Colvin was then sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Experts reviewed Colvin’s case file and found that Colvin suffers from a personality disorder which makes him likely to offend again. After hearing all of the evidence at trial, a jury found Colvin is a violent sexual predator and should be housed at the commitment center.
