A Jacksonville man was sentenced to two life terms Friday, with a 20-year minimum mandatory for the 2010 attempted murder of two men. The sentences will run consecutively.
Ruben McCloud, 35, also received 20 years for shooting into an occupied car.
McCloud was convicted last year on two counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting or throwing deadly missiles into a vehicle.
In April 2010, McCloud and two unknown co-defendants approached a car occupied by Jartervis McDaniel and Kendall Davis at the Easy Stop Store on Division Street. As McCloud walked to the car, he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victims.
When McDaniel saw the gun, he tried to drive away from the area. McCloud then fired three shots inside of McDaniel's car. The two victims were not injured in the shooting.
McCloud is a habitual offender with felony convictions for organized scheme to defraud and battery in a detention center.
