Some Avoiding Crowds By Shopping On Holiday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Quander Prince and her family said today was a perfect time to shop. She hit the northside K-Mart and said the deals are there.

"We just left from church and feeding the homeless and we just stopped in at K-Mart to see if we could pick up any early Christmas gifts," she said.

Dana Whitmore was with her son. She said since she had to be out, she might as well shop -- and this was only the beginning.

"I had to get something anyway, so I decided to check out what they had on sale," Whitmore said. "I will be out tomorrow too."

But some people Channel 4's Jim Piggott spoke with said they just didn't want to deal with the crowds on Friday. Checking out the sales on Thanksgiving day was the way to go.

Dorimda Wollitz was shopping too. She said she didn't want to get in the mess.

"I don't like crowds and the hustle and bustle," she said. She also said she would recommend shopping on Thanksgiving to anyone.

The shoppers were not just at K-Mart, but also at Garden Ridge in Regency. Shoppers may have been looking for deals even before carving the turkey. Thanksgiving day shopping could become a new trend, but probably won't replace Black Friday.

Susan Rohrman was wandering the aisles at Garden Ridge.

"We will be out tomorrow. I think tomorrow has most of the good deals, but there are few stores like Garden Ridge and K-Mart that have some Thanksgiving-only sales," Rohrman said.
