Showers today; cooler weather starts Monday

With the official start of Fall less than two weeks away, cooler temperatures will move into the Jacksonville forecast, starting this week.

Weather Authority meteorologist Rebecca Barry said Sunday's forecast starts with a potential for 40 percent coverage of showers, and grows from there.

"As our temperatures rise into the upper 80s, our potential for showers grows to 60 percent. Expect a rainy afternoon, especially to the South of the state line," Barry said.

A cold front is sweeping into southeastern Georgia on Sunday and ahead of the front will be rather unsettled weather and behind the front will be cooler, drier air.

"Over the course of the weekend, we should accumulate close to 2 inches of rain in some areas," Barry added. "The potential for severe storms is low, but the small chances lie during the afternoon hours across Northeastern Florida on Sunday."

Overnight on Sunday, our rain chances remain high, but end by sunrise on Monday.

Monday will be a bit breezy as cooler drier air rushes into the area, bringing clear skies, low humidity and cooler temperatures.

Expect your first taste of Fall as we wake up in the mid-60s and only warm to the mid-80s for the next several afternoons.
