HOBE SOUND, Fla. -

State park officials are prepared to set fire to parts of a Girl Scout camp in Hobe Sound.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will conduct a prescribed burn in Jonathan Dickinson State Park on Tuesday. Three burn piles across less than an acre of land will be burned.

Park officials said the burns will mimic natural fire cycles and are necessary to preserve natural communities, reduce growth and decrease the potential for wildfire.

When parks are burned the land often sees an increase in native flowers, birds and wildlife.
