A Palm Coast man who planned to clean up his daughter's car as a surprise when she came home on leave was himself surprised Thursday to find the car that he thought had sat on his driveway since March had been replaced with an identical car.
The problem was, the replacement car was stolen.
Flagler County deputies said the man had trouble starting what he thought was his daughter's vehicle, so he had it towed to a dealership at the Daytona Auto Mall. The dealership discovered the Nissan Altima that had been towed from Palm Coast was stolen out of Volusia County in March.
Deputies said that the Palm Coast car had been swapped with the stolen vehicle as it sat in the driveway on Prince Patric Lane. A stolen vehicle report for the Palm Coast was filed by the Sheriff's Office.
