A small South Carolina college remained locked down early Wednesday morning as police searched for the person who shot and killed a student in a campus dormitory.
Officials at Coastal Carolina University in Conway said the school still plans to hold classes Wednesday, and will make counselors available.
The victim was identified as Anthony Darnell Liddell, 19, from Bennettsville.
The shooting took place outside the University Place residence hall, the school said. The suspected shooter left in a vehicle, and police continue to look for him.
More than 9,000 students attend the school, which is located on 630 acres about 15 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach.
Coastal Carolina University was founded in 1954 as Coastal Carolina Junior College. It became an independent university in 1993.
