ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -

A substitute teacher just hired by the St. Johns County school district was arrested for having child pornography on a hard drive, according to an arrest report.

Deputies arrested 26-year-old Matthew Atkinson on Friday after they said they found multiple movies with video of what appeared to be underage girls involved in sexual activity.

Channel 4 talked with Atkinson's former roommate, who found the porn on a flash drive at their home and called authorities.

"What if he was involved with other people who make or distribute (porn)? I don’t want these kind of people coming around my .... house," the man told Channel 4.

Investigators caught up with Atkinson at a school and charged him with several counts of possession of obscene material.

Detectives said the man admitted he downloaded the videos and got pleasure in watching them.

Christina Langston, with the St. Johns County school system, said the alleged crimes did not involve any students. She said he was recently hired and had only substituted for four days. She said he taught at Gaines-Transitional School, Mill Creek and Ward's Creek Elementary.

Langston said the superintendent will recommend Atkinson's termination to the school board at the next meeting Dec. 11.

Atkinson, originally from Georgia, bonded out of jail Saturday.
