T.S. Debby brings rain, flooding in Tampa Bay area
Authorities across the Tampa Bay area are asking residents and tourists to stay away from flooded streets as Tropical Storm Debby remains nearly stationary in the Gulf of Mexico.
Some streets were still under water early Monday, while others were blocked with debris. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which spans Tampa Bay, remained closed early Monday due to high winds.
Across the bay in Tampa, Hillsborough County Sheriff's officials report downed power lines, street flooding and traffic lights that are not working.
Sunday's storms brought torrential rain to the area. The Tampa Bay Times reports Dunedin and Brooksville received more than 9 inches of rain, while downtown St. Petersburg recorded 5.28 inches.
In Pass-a-Grille beach near St. Petersburg, winds ripped the roof off the Pass-a-Grille Marina. No injuries were reported.
