Tampa police say the owner of a grocery store shot and killed a 16-year-old boy during an attempted robbery.
Police spokeswoman Irene Thomas told the Tampa Tribune that Quintavius Antonio Moore stopped in Baker's Mini Mart Monday morning and asked store owner Taquanda Shanti Baker for change. He returned about a half-hour later armed with a handgun.
Police say the teen pointed the gun at Baker, who pulled out a handgun and accidentally shot one round into the ground before firing a second time and hitting Moore.
The newspaper reports Baker ran out of the store and flagged down a passing police officer.
Moore was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died later Monday.
The case remains under investigation.
