JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Lawyers for the man charged with murder in the death of a mother and her 18-month-old daughter plans will present an insanity defense, Channel 4 learned.

Andrew Gomez, 19, is charged in the deaths of 18-year-old Tiffany Sykes-Cecconi and her child, Kaylani Cecconi.

Gomez was found standing naked in a community pool at the Cove subdivision on Royal Port Drive in Fort Caroline on July 8, 2009. The bodies of Tiffany Sykes-Cecconi and her daughter were also in the pool.

Police said Gomez admitted drowning his longtime friend and her daughter.

Gomez was arrested after a brief stay at Shands-Jacksonville and held ever since on several charges, including first-degree murder.

A trial date has not been set.
