PALM COAST, Fla. -

A woman sleeping in her Palm Coast home was hurt when a car failed to negotiate a curve on Cochise Court on Tuesday night, smashed through a mailbox and landed in her bedroom, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said while the car only partially penetrated the wall, concrete blocks from the wall were thrown into the bedroom and debris from the impact was sent 25 feet further in to the house.

Resident Nancy Deans and the driver, 17-year-old Marie Barletta, both received minor injuries, but did not require hospitalization.

"Everyone involved are extremely lucky not to have had significant injuries," said Flagler County Sheriff Donald Fleming.

A Palm Coast building official responded and determined the bedroom was unsafe. The electrical circuit breaker to the room was shut off due to exposed wires.

Florida Highway Patrol investigated the accident and charged Barletta with driving too fast for conditions.  Troopers estimate the damage to the house at $25,000.
