Teen critically injured in single-vehicle crash dies

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -

A 19-year-old Interlachen woman critically injured in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Putnam County died Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Samantha Overton was driving a pickup truck south on Coral Farms Road, just north of Manitoba Street, at about 2:20 a.m. when she drove off the roadway and onto the west grass shoulder.

Troopers said Overton oversteered back toward the road to try to regain control, but the truck went across the roadway and into the woods, striking several trees. It then overturned onto its driver's side.

Overton was flown by to Orange Park Medical Center.

Troopers were investigating why she traveled off the road. They said blood alcohol content results are pending.
