JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The two teenagers accused of killing a 17-year-old classmate last month were arraigned Monday on charges of second-degree murder.

Charles Southern, 17, and Connor Pridgen, 16, are accused in the Feb. 11 fatal shooting of Makia Coney. Police said she willingly left the campus of University Christian School with the two teens and rode around with them for a couple of hours before they shot her and left her near a ditch along Powers Avenue, not far from Wolfson High School.

The three were believed to be friends and a motive for the shooting is not clear.

The state attorney's office has charged the two juveniles in adult court.

At a brief hearing Monday, Southern and Pridgen each pleaded not guilty. They continue to be held without bond in the Duval County jail.
