Look to the sky at any major sporting event and you will usually see a blimp flying overhead. The Met-Life blimp will be over The PLAYERS all weekend. The airship is not only a giant billboard ..."Snoopy 1" as it's called, provides the official aerial coverage for the PGA Tour... This weekend it's flying high over The PLAYERS... And we got go along for a ride... in a small, 5- person cabin, we waved goodbye to the ground crew, and were up, up and away! with a 15-mile per hour head wind, we motored southeast from Craig Airport to TPC Sawgrass... TPC only took about 45 minutes ...the blimp felt kind of like being on a boat... ... The 68-thousand cubic feet of helium, is surprisingly very maneuverable, by Mark Finney turning wheels on either side of his captain's chair... ...What was even scarier, was Finney trusting me in charge... SMART PHOTOGRAPHER ...I decided not to test my luck...at least not without securing a MetLife policy first... ...Gave the wheel back to the pro and we floated on...past a plane...toward the coast... ...We got to the golf course and flew around... right over the iconic 17th hole... ...We approached the field ...and headed down... We cleared the fence and the men on the ground came running over to help ... they grabbed the nose lines, and at 6 knots, we touched down ... With a wealth of blimp knowledge and an unique perspective of one of the biggest weeks in golf from a giant balloon.
