ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -

Part of the roof of a tire store on State Road 207 was blown off during a storm late Tuesday afternoon.

The damage to St. Augustine Tire and Service was reported just before 4 p.m.

"I didn’t actually hear any noise until it was actually happening," said Bo Smith, a witness. "It was actually like wind was trapped. You heard a couple of big booms and then you heard all the debris just hitting stuff and blowing away."

"This incredible gust of wind came. I'd describe it as sort of almost a tornado, but not quite," Dominic Mercurio, who works next to the store, said in a phone interview. "We watched the typical funnel shape just rip the roof right off."

He said people were inside at the time, but no injuries were reported.

Channel 4 chief meteorologist John Gaughan said there were 50-60 mph gusts of wind in the area at that time.

Al Sanderik with the National Weather Service said three bay doors were facing the wrong direction when the wind came in.

Mercurio said some cars were also damaged in the storm.
